11/8/2023 0 Comments Logic pro update 10.7.1![]() Apple tend to have pretty good usage data about features and how their software is used, so I'm sure these decisions are difficult - they've stepped away from the hot potato of what to do about it for years and just left it in, so the users who use it can continue to do so, but that's not going to continue forever of course. The Logic Environment is somewhat simpler though and only exposes a small subset of Logic's features to the user, unlike those other tools where that node-based workspace is often a fundamental concept for the core features of the app. Indeed - this kind of node-based workspace in stuff like Nuke, Resolve etc is very powerful. In short, it'd be a big loss if Apple put this to sleep. Here are the actual objects involved with that last one, brace yourself: Here's another one I did in Cinema 4D to enable me to quickly render out a myriad binary permutations of a product visualisation, you know the kind of thing the client asks, "Can you do one with the yellow floor and one with white background, and small and big sizes and with and without reflections and from this angle and that angle, and this light and that light, and all possible combinations of these variants and can I have it this afternoon, yes I can.":Īnd, of course, the big one, where Logic is the main hub of a five-piece live band, which I go into a bit more detail ![]() Here's an example of a rolling credits rig I did in DaVinci Resolve which not only does rolling credits, it has separately movable graphics elements, separate speeds, sizes, and opacity for elements, all of which are dynamically automatable: The difference is that all these other companies have kept developing their Environment variants for the past 30+ years into truly powerful tools while Apple, who seemingly deem their users not smart enough to handle it, and being unable to get rid of it without breaking too much core functionality, chose to hide that ugly step child in the basement and rather not mention its name in public. ![]() If you look at professional software (3d animation, video editing, etc), most of the time you find some kind of object oriented, ahem, environment very similar to the Environment, which enables you to do incredible stuff and amazing customisations which then perform the most crazy things with unmatched flexibility. You know, for years I have this feeling that not far away in the future I'll buy the last Mac in my life, install the last Logic version with the Environment and if they then go in and rip it out all I'll feel is sorry for the coming generation of users to be deprived of such a great tool. They are literally just trying to hide and discourage use of the environment anymore.
